Bulletin No. 44 – Cotopaxi volcano situation 14/10/2015

At night and early this morning, the volcano remained cloudy. But through thermal cameras at daybreak gas and steam emissions at the level of the crater in west direction were observed. Moderate rainfall on the flanks of the volcano that did not generate lahars occurred. The seismicity is shown similar as previous days: indicates movement of magma and fluids inside the volcano, and emission tremors are characterized for lasting several minutes. These events are part of the Yellow Alert.

The Ministry of Tourism visited affected areas with staff of the Secretary of Risk Management, Geophysical Institute and Municipality of Mejia.

Establishments operating from 06:00 to 17:00: Los Mortiños, 4 volcanes Restaurant, Chilcabamba and Mauca Pedregal.
The Ministry of Environment authorizes Tambopaxi, located within the Cotopaxi National Park, remains closed as a precaution.
