Bulletin 02/09/2015 – Cotopaxi volcano situation

Status: Yellow alert

Volcano status: In eruptive process

Internal activity: High

Surface activity: Moderate

The Cotopaxi volcano keeps its internal activity levels high and surface activity moderate. Since early today, a constant emission of steam and gas with a small amount of ash, which reached less than 100 meters above the crater with western direction was observed. None ash fall nor rains have occurred in the sector.

Recommendations

The Ministry of Tourism advices tourists and tour operators to remain alert to guidelines and recommendations provided by the Ministry of Security Coordination.

Accommodation:

The Ministry of Tourism has identified nine establishments near the volcano that are currently closed in order to review their emergency and operations plans. This entity will provide timely updates relating to this matter.

Flights

Local airports are open and operating normally, including Latacunga Airport.
